What's to come?

I cannot be more pleased with my job and the cases I have worked. I have even analyzed some samples from one of the last serial killer case. The FBI even allows me to work on high profile cases and cases that cross state lines. However, I would not be me if I said I was completely satisfied. I do want to move up to the DNA lab. Trace evidence is great. I have met some awesome people, traveled to new places, and gained a lot of experience. But there are still so many different places to explore and new goals to achieve. I could go all the way to work at an international forensic lab. Oh, I could travel the world and solve universal crimes! Or maybe I could write a book about my experience and tell everyone about Forensic Science. No matter what, I am very much looking forward to the future and whats to come!

Intro

All my life I have always believed in the facts and in the truth. I rely on logic and intellect to assist me in my decision making and I try to wait until all the information is in before making any judgement. I started watching cop shows, fiction and non, as a kid with my parents. Intrigued with the idea of justice and catching the bad guy. I also never got grossed out or queasy at the site of blood or guts. Initially, I wanted to be a doctor, to help people to the best of my ability, but that all changed when I got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue. This made the physical aspects of med school and residency impossible. For a long time, I felt lost. After high school, I jumped around from major to major for a couple years in college until I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Kelly Warden and taking her microbiology class. Right away, the lectures, the lab techniques, the experiments, and the tests - it all clicked. I understood it both scientifically and practically. When talking to Dr. Warden about career opportunities, she mentioned the ability to work in a forensic lab. Perfect! I had been so caught up in the loss of not being able to be a doctor that I didn’t even think about my other lifelong interest. It was like a weight was lifted off my chest. But as much as I knew from just having an interest in the subject, I really did not know anything about what needs to be done in order to have a career in Forensic Science. Forensic Science is the application of science in criminal law. What did I need my major to be? Was there a major specifically for forensic science? Did I need a minor? Was there even a chance at a job if I finished school? There were still a lot of questions I had. That is where the idea for my project, CSI or Bust, came from. I wanted to find out all I could about the aspects of this science and share it with those who are also wanting to make a career with forensic science.
